From Ford Agency to Chevrolet Dealership to Passenger Transportation, the Lee Anderson
Company has seen many changes since its inception in 1925.
Great-Grandfather Elmer Anderson started the business as a Ford Agency across the tracks
on the Main Street of Frazee MN, in the old Northern Turkey Hatchery Building in 1925. When
Highway #10 moved from Main Street to the other side of the tracks he moved the business also
and switched to selling Chevrolet Cars and Trucks. By 1935 along with his Chevrolet agency he
purchased three school buses and began what would be the first of over 67 years of continued
passenger transportation service.
The early routes covered Height of Land of Lake, Wolf Lake and Vergas. Also during the
30's he was a Greyhound Bus Agent. His little depot even boasted a small lunch counter
at the garage. A wrecker service, Standard Oil Station and gas transport services were
another part of the business at that time.
Great-Grandfather's son, Lee Anderson, bought the business from his father in 1949. Lee
added a clothing store, a turkey feedlot operation, and an appliance sales division to the mix
during the 50's. The 60's brought about the addition of Lee Anderson Superior Coach Sales,
which sold new and used School buses. During the 70's Lee's son Gyle, being a pilot, took
the company to the air with a commuter airline business, which served Detroit Lakes,
Park Rapids and Minneapolis, MN airports.
Over the years looking at the diversity of the company it was a decision of the Anderson
family to sell off everything except what was their true passion, that
being the passenger land transportation companies.
Today the company is owned by fourth generation Ted Anderson. Ted purchased the company
from Grandfather Lee Anderson in 1984 and has since changed the name to Anderson Bus
Company of Frazee, Inc., which is the school bus division and Anderson Coach of Frazee, Inc.,
which is the Motor Coach operation. The Companies own and operate 29 school buses and 7
top of the line VanHool Motor Coaches. Ted takes pride in his continued family heritage
of providing safe and reliable transporation and hopes he and his family are able to do so
for many generations to come.
